Hello True Voice Media Podcast fans, we have a new episode for you this week!

Last week, we talked about Facebook Ad Targeting and how people misuse the feature to share and monetize hate speech and misinformation, and this week we’re moving from one major social media network’s big news to the other.

Yes, we’re talking about #280.

For anyone that doesn’t know, last week Twitter announced that select users were able to tweet in 280 characters versus the traditional 140. We had a lot of thoughts about that move, so that discussion pretty much dominated the episode, but we did still share what we’re obsessed with this week.

Some resources from this week’s discussion:

So why oh why is Twitter doing #280?
Hidden Brain: You 2.0: Getting Unstuck

The story about the author who wrote her book through tweets starts at 17:39. But we still recommend that you listen to the whole episode.

This Week’s Obsessions:

Jessie is obsessed with a conversation that happened between Netflix and Stranger Things fans that opened an unauthorized pop up bar.
Jeff is obsessed with #280 and the protests in the NFL about the National Anthem. AND, he’s the good kind of obsessed with his lovely fiancé Erica.
Caroline is obsessed with a podcast (shocker) called Wonderful! by Rachel and Griffin McElroy and the show’s theme song Money Won’t Pay.

TWITTER USERS: It would be nice if you stopped people making death threats.

TWITTER: OK, but what if those death threats could be LONGER?

280 character count means less confusing abbreviations & more nuance, lower skimability. But at least it’s easier for Twitter rookies

280 characters on a mobile device is going to look like reading a book on a Kindle. Welcome to twindle, @twitter users.
