In 2019, Hasbro distributed a press release that said the company planned to remove plastic from its packaging by the end of 2022. For some Vintage Collection (TVC) collectors – this is a problem. In a recent poll, nearly 45 percent of the TVC collectors said they keep their action figures on card and in the bubble because the plastic bubble in the packaging harkens back to the original run of Kenner action figures. Nostalgia is part of the appeal. Without plastic in the packaging, that entire aesthetic will be gone.
Additionally, Hasbro has made their intentions clear – they wish to recreate every action figure Kenner offered between 1978 and 1985 in TVC.
On this episode of the Smuggler’s Galaxy Podcast, Glen and Jason look at all the characters who have not been represented in TVC and wonder if Hasbro will be able to meet their corporate mandate to remove plastic form packaging by 2022, or will TVC be the exception since plastic in the package IS part of the appeal?
