Welcome back to Small Talks!
Every episode, new guest, new city, one big wish: inspiring you with genuine stories about dreams and what makes them happen, meeting our guests across the world at midnight, in the silence of their home.

This time we will be in the Netherlands.
Marianne is a lifestyle family and portrait photographer – originally from Norway – married to a German and mom to 3 teenagers.
If you are curious about her work, you can look into her Instagram accounts: @picturelyspoken and @mariannehope

Marianne shared with me that her dream when she was young was to be a creative. She just didn’t know in what way, straight out of school.
She told me the story of how she met the love of her life and what brought her in the Netherlands.
We talked about how hard and competitive can be the life of a photographer and how she grew in her confidence, finding her uniqueness and strengths.
She told me that to study any kind of creative profession was very hard in Norway in 1992 as there were so few schools and student spots. Since she had good grades in school and an ear for languages she instead chose something that came relatively easy to her -  Economic study in Mannheim, Germany. She didn’t like the study at all, but she did like living abroad, loved student life as it was and there she met the love of her life.
In the end – after becoming a mom and passionately capturing her kids’ visual story as an avid scrapbooker - photography found her. The day she decided to take the step to be my own employer and to photograph people for a living, is the day she finally found her why: to capture other people’s stories and to know that they will treasure these moments for years and years, is what makes her happy and what drives her to put in the hard work every day.
