Shifting ideas of gender roles among millennials and members of Generation Z have changed the way young adults approach their roles and responsibilities on a first date, particularly when it comes to finances and who foots the bill. The shift in perception of gender roles coupled with the increasing financial burdens more young adults experience can create tension between two people on a first date when deciding who should pay for that date.
