From 2012 to 2020, Amy Powers was the Director of Bands at Henry Sibley High School where she taught the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Pep Band. She also administered the Private Lesson Program. Prior to Henry Sibley, Amy was a Band Director at Rosemount Middle School, Black Hawk Middle School (Eagan), St. Thomas Academy (Mendota Heights), and Crosswinds Middle School (Woodbury). In addition to serving as a Director of Bands, Amy served as the Orchestra Director at the University of Minnesota at Morris. She has also been active as a Color Guard Instructor and Caption Head for over 20 years, most notably serving the Sound of Sun Prairie (Sun Prairie, WI), Rosemount High School (Rosemount, MN), and Eastview High School (Apple Valley, MN). In the fall of 2020, Amy Powers will be a 5th Grade Band Director in the Lakeville Public Schools.
Amy is active as a clinician and adjudicator for marching bands and color guards throughout the country. She is a member of several judges associations but devotes the bulk of her judging time to the Central States Judges Association. Amy is a member of the Minnesota Music Educator’s Association and the National Band Association.
Amy is a graduate of Sun Prairie High School in Sun Prairie, WI. She earned her Bachelor’s in Music Education and her Bachelor’s in Bassoon Performance from the University of Minnesota at Morris. She also holds a Master’s in Education from Saint Mary’s University as well as 40 additional credits from the University of St. Thomas and Saint Mary’s University.
During her free time, Amy loves to spend time with her family and friends. She also loves to do interior design, be on the water, and foster dogs. Amy lives in Eagan with her husband, Chris, son, Max, daughter, Ellie, and dogs: Archie, Cody, and Benny.
