This week we go back to the end of the 19th century and discuss the infamous Gouffé Affair - a case that marked a milestone in the use of forensic pathology and forensic science in criminal investigations.

In July of 1889, a wealthy bailiff named Toussaint-Augustin Gouffé goes missing from Paris, France.  When the body of a man is found outside of Lyons, it is the determination of Commissioner Marie-François Goron and the pioneering work of the “French Sherlock Holmes,” Alexandre Lacassagne who solve this murder and bring the criminals to justice.
