I've been a fan of this small business since the first time I saw one of their cool signs shared on Facebook. My wife Kim and really like the modern farmhouse design style made famous by the HGTV show Fixer Upper. Seven Eight Sign's designs remind me of that look and feel, so it was a thrill to have the owners on the podcast.
Signs Made From Reclaimed Wood
All of their signs and other products are made from reclaimed wood. The reclaimed wood gives their signs the type of character and depth that you just can't recreated. Plus, they're salvaging material that would wind up in a landfill somewhere.
Husband And Wife Team
Seven Eight Sign is a husband and wife team comprised of South County residents, Erin and Brian Moeckel. The business started out as a way for the couple to make some extra money while Erin took a one year maternity leave after the birth of one of their kiddos. But as it turned out, they really have a knack for making awesome products out of reclaimed wood.
Growing Demand
Over the years, through word of mouth and social media, their small family business has consistently grown. The Moeckels had to make the transition from having a hobby that made some extra money, to running a part time small business. They recently hired their first employees who help them make signs, furniture, their super popular cornhole game sets and even the bean bags that go with the sets.
Seven Eight Sign Online
Then next big step in the growth of their business was creating an ecommerce website where people can place orders from anywhere in the world. Their roots may be here in South St. Louis County, but their products are all over the world.
