Being the local Doctor and the Doctor's wife was a saving grace for Hanni's family. Shortly after the German Army entered Vienna in 1938, the family started the paperwork in trying to immigrate to Massachusetts.
It took quite a long time for them to secure all the paperwork and a job in Boston for her father, but shortly there after they were on their journey to America.
The children's book "My Two Cities" by Robin Mayers Stein with Hanni Myers has been written in verse so children and teens can learn of the experience of this one family. What was Hanni's childhood like as an immigrant who didn't speak English when she arrived in America . They overcame many obstacles but never gave up hope for themselves and many others
No matter how challenging, Hanni's mother and father were able to help 17 families immigrate to the United States to freedom. Some were friends or relatives, others were not. But the family never stopped trying to help others left behind in Europe.
