Reflection
Allah’s Prophet (peace & blessings upon him) said, “A moment’s reflection is worth more than a year of worship; a moment’s reflection is worth more than seventy years of worship; a moment’s reflection is worth more than a thousand years of worship.”
Reflection was important to the Prophet. It would be incumbent upon us to understand what it means and how to apply it properly.

I speak from my own personal understanding. If you have a different view of this I would be happy to hear it.

Reflection is not the same as meditation. My experience with meditation is that is purpose is to clear the mind of thoughts as they arise, to focus on the breath, and always come back to the breath. There are many different techniques, but it is a wonderful way to slow down and become present. I highly recommend it.

To reflect means to return an image; or:  the throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it, as ‘the reflection of light’ or: serious thought or consideration."he doesn't get much time for reflection”.
Say I would like to reflect on truth. I might start with what I know about truth - that it is not a lie, that there is some kind of ‘backup’ that proves that it is true. That means something verifies the authenticity of a truth. But then, how much verification is needed to know something is verified to be true? How can I know anything is true? What is proof, and who or what is enough proof?
Perhaps a way to get started would be to think about disengaging the brain - or editor - part after we get started on the subject and let the heart speak. Okay, I know from Sufi teachings that a Truth needs to be confirmed from both inner and outer sources. Right. I often wish things were true. That comes from within. But if that wish doesn’t manifest in the outer then it is not true.

Do I know anything that is true, certainly and without doubt? Well, someone is asking these questions, looking for answers, so that means there is a sentient somewhere around. We could call this person a ‘me’ or an ‘I’, one supposes, just for pinning something down. Then it would follow that an ‘I’ exists: but is that true? I can stand in front of a mirror and see a reflection, and point and I am still there, so that outer ‘I’ is confirmed. I feel, from within, that I am here. And my outer reflection confirms it. Okay. I think that means that ‘I exist’ could be true, or a category of ‘true’.
Okay, that’s one example of reflection. Let’s consider how to go about doing another.

I sometimes see reflecting as letting my mind out for a run. If a path looks interesting, I’ll cut across the field and follow it. What we’re trying to do is to get the heart to follow where it will, and not have any expectations about what we’ll find, or where we’ll go, or where we will end up. What’s important  is to allow the heart to go where it will.
Sufis often use one of the 99 Names of Allah as a reference point for reflection. Let’s pick one at random. My finger is pointing at Al Muqtadir - the Creator of All Power.

Just like word association, I go with whatever comes to mind first. We’ve tossed our editor overboard and now allow the min
