Introduce the listener to the field of neonatal salivary
diagnostics, the unique considerations of collecting and analyzing saliva in the
newborn, and the impact this type of research may have on the field to
improve neonatal outcomes. Dr. Maron will describe her ongoing research
studies, specifically two of her NIH sponsored trials aimed at integrating a
salivary infectious screening platform (Salivary Profiling in Infants Treated
for Suspected Sepsis-SPITSS) and an oral feeding readiness platform
(Neonatal Oral-feeding Readiness In Salivary High-throughput diagnostics-
NOuRISH) into newborn care.
