For today’s episode, Toshi had the privilege of chatting with Zoe Madden-Smith, multimedia journalist at Re: News, an online news platform here in New Zealand. Zoe has a passion for telling stories that centre and resonate with young people, being 26 years old herself, and she’s especially drawn to stories about sex, health, and anything that’s seen as ‘too taboo’ to talk about (which are some of the things we love to talk about here at Sex in Space).
We spoke about how she got into this role at Re: News, why the media has such an important role to play in sex education, what she wishes she’d learned from her own sex ed, and more.
Zoe was nominated for Video Journalist of the Year and Best Feature Video in the 2023 Voyager Media Awards, and was Runner Up Junior Feature writer of the year in 2022. She also has experience directing and producing a whole bunch of short and long-form stories. You can email her at [email protected] if you have an idea for a story.
