Reflection Questions

1. Read 1 Thessalonians 1:9; 2:7-12. How have you personally experienced the transition from being enslaved to something, to receiving robust familial affection?

2. As a member of the family, how have you experienced ingrafted belonging and being deeply valued (in accordance with Isaiah 55:8), as opposed to the superficial paradigm of ‘trying to FEEL like you fit in’ (see John 12:43)?

3. We are very very very preoccupied with what WE want. How might you enjoy life WAY MORE by becoming obsessed with what Jesus wants (see John 17:20-24)?

4. What difference does it make (to the way you navigate anxiety, or battle low self-esteem, or struggle to make decisions) to know that God refuses to merely tolerate you in His family, but rather He DEMANDS that you accept the fact that He treasures you as His inheritance/heritage?

5. In what specific ways have you acquired a robust taste for the WEIRDNESS of the church family? For example, how have you personally participated in the extremely BAZAAR LIFESTYLE of Living by Faith (as opposed to by sight)? Or involved yourself in the rigorous labors of love? Or clung to the assurance of things hoped for, even to the extent that you’ve hoped against hope?
