Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss Star Trek Beyond from 2016. J.J. Abrams was unable to direct this flick, so Paramount decided to go with Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6). The Enterprise crew goes on shore leave, but learns of a distress call. After investigating the matter at hand, dangerous alien ships tear the Enterprise to bits. The crew is stranded on a mysterious planet fraught with danger. Can Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), McCoy (Karl Urban), and the rest escape?
Mat and Thrasher love the new Castlevania animated series on Netflix. Thrasher gave Plan 9 from Outer Space another look and enjoys its charms despite its turgid pacing. Mat was let down by Masterminds, the latest flick from Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite). He much preferred an earlier comedy by Hess, Gentlemen Broncos.
