In July 1979 firefighters are called to a motel fire in Red Oak, Iowa. When they arrive on the scene and extinguish the fire they discover the body of a child lying dead on the floor. On the surface, the police are convinced that it is just a tragic accident, but as additional details come to light several years later that may not be the case.
