Jas Rawlinson is as an author, freelance journalist, writing coach, and a mental health advocate who shines a light on taboo topics. Jas uses her writing skills to empower trauma survivors to turn their past pain into powerful life stories. How cool is that.

Her new book Reasons to Live, volume two has just been released. The woman we see today projects strength and confidence. It wasn’t always that way. Growing up Jas’s home life included a father who told her she would never amount to anything, and was frequently angry and violent. Jas was at a real low point in her life and actually contemplating suicide when her father took his own life. She struggled to deal with the trauma and started making poor life choices. Then at age 20 she was sexually assaulted. It took Jas more than a decade to realize that she was suffering from PTSD.

A big moment came when Jas published the first volume in her book series where her story, and the stories of other trauma victims. Each of the stories are honest and raw, but they all have an empowering ending. In this discussion Jas:

Shares that her teen years were spent mostly in fear
Talked about her initial reaction to her father’s suicide
Reflects on some of the bad choices she made in the aftermath
Explains how you came to realize that she was suffering from PTSD more than 10 years after her father’s death
Talks about the work she does as a writing coach for survivors of trauma
Reveals that she still suffers from anxiety today
And gives us a peek into her new book

It was an honest, raw, but empowering conversation. Enjoy.
