A lot of people in Hollywood are upset this week, because Disney's board of directors unanimously voted to retain Bob Chapek as CEO for another three years. This comes in the wake of firing Peter Rice, the LIGHTYEAR bomb, the mess over Florida politics, the revolt by employees in certain divisions of the company, and the "hostage video" that some say demonstrated Chapek's weakness as a leader.
But on the other hand, could this be the beginning of a "new Disney" with an empowered Chapek? Does the board's repeated votes of confidence (and now a contract renewal) finally put Chapek in the place where he can run the company his way without the shadow of Bob Iger looming in the corner?
