Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) president John Coates says athletes should face a jail term if they refuse to cooperate with sports doping investigations. A Senate committee is considering new laws to increase the powers of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) to force athletes to give evidence to drug inquiries. Mr Coates says the new laws don't go nearly far enough and won't act as a proper deterrent to determined drug cheats.
