If you are a New Zealander who claims you don’t know who Dai Henwood is…I would probably be a little bit skeptical.

Dai has been a part of the local comedy and TV scene for over 20 years. Starting as a stand up comedian he ended up as one of the team captains on 7Days, a role he held for over a decade. More recently he has hosted big mainstream TV shows like Family Feud, DWTS and LegoMasters.

In late January 2023 he announced publically that he had been living with cancer for 3 years. So while you and I were dealing with the confusion of lockdowns, social distancing, work from home and traffic light systems, Dai was dealing with all of that and bowel cancer. Treatment that had included fourteen rounds of chemotherapy, high-dose radiation, three lung surgeries and having parts of his liver and bowel removed. But after the cancer spread to his lungs and lymph nodes, his oncologist told him the cancer was incurable.

I’ve known Dai for ever. I first met him when he came in for a radio interview in the early 2000s and it has been awesome to watch him evolve professionally and personally over that time.

This short tease comes from our full length conversation which will be out Monday morning when you wake up.
