Maia Wilson first made the silver ferns in 2016 when she was still 19 and has been there shooting goals, and lots of them ever since.

But she is so much more than an awesome netballer- sports wise, she made the NZ women's basketball team when she was just 16.

In this conversation we chat about a whole range of stuff like body image, self-worth, and the societal pressures faced by professional athletes. Also coping with the death of her nana and dad in quick succession. Then getting through the lockdown while helping nurse her mum through a diagnosis of lung cancer.

Maia has dealt with a tonne of adversity which has helped make her the fierce bullet-proof resilient waihine that she is today.

She is a real breath of fresh air and so much fun to talk to- as well as being talented, fiercely competitive and driven…she is also bloody hilarious!
