Hosts Dallen Stanford & Robin MacDowell are joined by legend Tiana Penitani for #RugbyHive Episode 7.

Penitani co-captained Australia in 2014 to a Gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China. The tournament was her first in 14 months, following a serious knee injury sustained at the 2013 Sevens World Cup. At 17 years and 163 days old, Penitani became Australia's youngest ever representative in either 15s or 7s at a World Cup, when she represented Australia in Russia.

Shortly thereafter she was a member of the first ever Australian side to win the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in 2015/2016, winning tournaments in Dubai, Sao Paulo and Atlanta. To date New Zealand has won the Women's Sevens Series 6 times, with Australia claiming two seasons including 2017/2018.

In today’s episode we talk about representing her country at the Sevens World Cup while still in High School.

We chat about her family, the tribute to her father who she lost at a very young age, we also delve into being on the Olympic Games 2016 squad but having to withdraw due to injury. Her country would go on to win Gold in Rio de Janeiro. Penitani has some brilliant advice for us all about coping with depression and the ego placing value on one’s achievements.

We talk about switching codes to represent Australia in league (Jillaroos) and take part in the 2019 Rugby League World Cup 9s - all before the age of 24.

Is she faster than her fiancé Aaron? What’s it like being a broadcaster on the sensational Sevens World Series? And what are her and New Zealand rugby legend Karl Te Nana doing on TikTok?

We hope you enjoy and follow us on these platforms!
