The website Everytown For Gun Safety, launched by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg states 142 school shootings have taken place since the Sandy Hook Elementary school mass killing of 20 children and 6 staff in 2012. Opponents argue gang-related shootings, shootings over drugs, and shootings over arguments are not school shootings, even if the shooting takes place at schools or on school property. "It's not a school shooting when someone goes and shoots a specific person on campus.
