We've all had moments when we've opened our mouths and said the wrong thing and immediately booted ourselves metaphorically in our own backsides. Is that what happened yesterday when a woman at a place I regularly do business at looked at my wedding ring and said "how long do you plan to wear that wedding ring now that your wife has died?" My gut reaction was to say "what a stupid question and what business is it of yours?" But I didn't. The woman just stared at me as though she thought her question was entirely appropriate and deserving of a specific answer. What would your response have been to this? How have you handled awkward questions?
