The murders at Emmanuel AME Church and the fact this 21 year old would receive a .45 caliber handgun as a birthday present from his father has again raised the issue of whether firearms, particularly handguns in the U.S are too easily obtained and whether gun ownership should be ended for citizens not in the military or law enforcement. President Obama again brought up the issue of guns while commenting on the Charleston murders. Is it time to take guns out of the hands of private citizens, as other countries have largely done? Expect a federal NDP or Liberal government to try to end or far more severely restrict private gun ownership in Canada?
