The Civilian Review and Complaints Commission report about RCMP action in private residences in High River, Alberta during and following the devastating June, 2013 flooding reveals hundreds of legally owned firearms were removed from those private residences by police without the requisite "legal authority." Firearms of law-abiding citizens were removed by police who had no warrants and without judicial oversight. Homes were "forcibly entered" as RCMP officers were ostensibly looking for flood victims to save. But some of those homes had no or little flood water activity or damage and there is evidence to suggest police looked in dresser drawers for people in need of saving. 609 firearms were taken, many of them legally and properly stored. Guests: Lorne Gunter. Sun Media. Investigated the High River gun seizures. Documentary: Broken Trust. Greg Kvisle. High River resident and real estate agent. Says RCMP stole family heirlooms, a rifle and shotgun they would have had to rummage through his basement to find.
