The Northwest Territories extended the state of emergency this week, but has announced Yellowknife residents will begin to be permitted to return home next week. Wildfires continue to burn in proximity to Yellowknife. How have evacuees from Yellowknife and elsewhere in the NWT been faring away from their homes and their work/careers? Many have lost salaries and worry about jobs being available on return.
Guest: Donna-Lynn Baskin who with her daughter drove from Yellowknife to Calgary two weeks ago and through the night-time flames encroaching on the one highway linking the NWT southward.

Jess Larochelle passed away this week. The CAF Private who was recommended for Canada's highest military honour, the Canadian Victoria Cross, for his valour in a battle against Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan in 2006. Lt. General Omer Lavoie, the Command Officer on the battlefield that day was a guest with us and described Pvt. Larochelle's valour in detail. General Rick Hillier, former Chief of the Defence Staff also appeared on our program to support the CDN VC for Jess Larochelle, but still there was military and political refusal. Pvt. Larochelle was critically wounded yet kept fighting to cover his fellow CAF soldiers. Pvt. Larochelle as recently as several months ago underwent surgeries related to wounds suffered in the battle.
Guest: Bruce Moncur. Fmr CAF member, founder of Afghanistan Veterans Association of Canada and who lead the support for Pvt. Larochelle to receive the CDN VC. Bruce Moncur was also critically wounded in a friendly fire incident in Afghanistan.
