In 2022, 18.4% of people in the ten provinces lived in a food-insecure household. that amounts to 6.9 million people, including almost 1.8 million children living in households that struggled to afford the food they need. This is a considerable increase from 2021. 1 in 4 children lived in food insecure homes in Canada in 2022.
