Calls for a national Canadian carbon tax, now that fuel prices at the pump are significantly lower. It would motivate Canadians to be more likely to purchase fuel-efficient vehicles and help fund green energy development. Canadian fuel prices are already massively taxed. That's why gasoline purchased at a Montreal refinery is, transportation and delivery costs notwithstanding, sold in border states like New York and Vermont at more than $1 off the pump price in Quebec. The former finance minister for Northern Ireland is a vocal opponent of carbon taxes.
