In Connecticut, 17 year old Cassandra Fortin was forcibly removed from her parents home and ordered by a court to undergo chemotherapy for Hodgkins Lymphoma. Cassandra ran away to avoid chemotherapy. She doesn't want to experience the misery of chemotherapy. Does the state have the right to order a 17 year old to undergo what is described by doctors as life-saving chemotherapy? A leading bioethicist says and writes, the state does have the right and in fact, the obligation to force Cassandra to undergo chemo.
