The Alternative Hour! Your one stop shop for the best, the worst, and the hidden gems of the past 30 years of Alternative Music. The Alternative Hour is a FREE weekly radio show with a focus on presenting music from all over the Alternative Music spectrum, from established artists such as Green Day and All Time Low, all the way to independant artists such as Ollie Hayes and Waxflower.
Hosted by Jarrod Hayson, each episode is also packed with friendly and knowledgeable banter to keep the show flowing from song to song.
Alongside featuring some of the best alternative music, each episode also contains two segments:
Release Radar: Keeping the listeners up to date with all the latest and greatest Alternative Music, from both new and established artists.
Artist Spotlight of the Week: 3 Songs played back-to-back from a single Artist. Highlighting a new, up and coming artist; an album that is celebrating an anniversary; or playing some deep cuts that don’t get a lot of love or attention.
At the beginning of each month, we also do a full album playthrough, focusing on albums that are celebrating an anniversary. We also do Artist Interviews, and have previously done interviews with artists and musicians such as Atom Willard (former drummer of Angels & Airwaves and Social Distortion), and Ollie Hayes (UK Independant Alt-Pop Artist).
Jarrod Hayson is a 25 year old Video Editor/Motion Graphics Designer from Auckland, New Zealand. He has over 4 years radio experience, having worked as an Intern at the Edge Radio Station in 2015, and had a 3 week stint on Chichester Hospital Radio whilst on holiday in the UK in 2017. He has been producing The Alternative Hour since November 2020 after seeing an ad on Seek Volunteers for show producers. He continues to produce the show in his spare time, and since beginning the show has never missed a week. Outside of the show, Jarrod spends his time writing his own music for his band, and working on both his Video Game and Vinyl Record collection.
