About Karen

She is a longtime chemistry professor, punk rocker, speaker, and world traveler. A recipient of the Carnegie Professor of the Year award, Karen has been inspiring and empowering over a million budding scientists worldwide in classrooms, research labs, camps, research articles, on her social media channels, and two TEDx talks.

As an active punk rock guitarist and singer, Karen has performed on hundreds of stages over the past 25 years and is currently in two active bands. She has been an active radio show host and podcaster for 20 years and is the Founder of the first community radio station in her current hometown of Salem, Oregon.
