General Edward Hand's life was a microcosm of the early American experience: An Irish doctor who came to America in the British Army, left and joined the Patriot cause, and fought with Washington as his Adjutant General. After the war, he came back to Lancaster PA, and helped to build the nation he fought to create. His home, in Lancaster, is one of the best examples of early American Georgian architecture in the country.
