On 21 October 1966 a giant pile of coal spoil dumped on the side of a hill overlooking the Welsh village of Aberfan collapsed during heavy rain causing a massive coal slurry wave 40ft tall to pour down the hill destroying everything in its path including the Plantglas Junior School. This caused the deaths of 116 children and 28 adults.
