My interview with the band. The Story of Krilloan

A truer story have never been told

Part I: The Arrival and the Ash Tree

It all started in the city of Krilloan, the city of adventures and epic quests, around a year ago. The apprentice Klas arrived in the city hell-bent on learning the secrets of metal and the Riddle of Steel. He went to the first tavern he could lay his eyes on to meet his old friend Joakim, who had arrived in Krilloan a few days earlier, having blazed through the dark woods in the south by wheels of fire. Joakim, a master of the arts of steel, had agreed to discuss the topic with Klas. Together they had braved the sorceries of Syrtan, repelled giant invaders on the walls of the Nameless City, battled the undead hordes below desolate Dracht, and survived the Wuaen lizard-horse of the Laughing King’s fortress, just to name a few of their heroic exploits over the years. So, drawing upon their long history of adventures together, they quickly came up with a plan on how to begin the quest. A few pints later they also came up with solutions to all the world’s problems as well, but that’s a story for another day. Stumbling home through the dark alleys they had one thing on their minds – the world needed more metal!

Already equipped with a bunch of tools for the task, Klas decided to do some more research on the topic. He already had some experience to work with “light metal”, like mithril or aluminum… but now the plan was to work with the real deal: steel!  He soon found himself drowning in all the information that was posted around the city, and everyone he talked to said good but different things on how to conquer the secrets of steel and to be one of the few, one of the kings of metal. Or at least an apprentice of metal! He needed to find some inspiration and gather his thoughts in order to start working. So, what did he do? No, he did NOT go back to the tavern. He went out in the woods of course! In order to learn, one has to start from the beginning, he said to himself.

Suddenly, deep in his own thoughts he banged his head against something very hard. A hard rock, you might think, but no, it was a great ash tree. Klas thought that he hallucinated because the tree had an unearthly glow and made humming sounds of great power. It almost seemed like it sang some type of song... ”So many centuries, so many gods, we were the prisoners of our own fantasy,” the tree sang in voices that were the sound of true metal. “Hell, that’s a good song,” Klas thought, headbanging (not against the tree) in the woods. But that song was already written and nothing he could ever do would come close to what he had heard from the tree. But it got him inspired, so the first thing to do would be to write a song about the tree that had inspired him. Said and done, back to Krilloan!
