Bass rhythms are important to me, and the bassist whose records I've listened to most is the late Robbie Shakespeare, half of Sly & Robbie.
He played on thousands of sessions in Jamaica, and if you've got any reggae discs, he'll likely be on half of them.
Here's a few tunes in tribute, end-to-end.
Lots more to come, as long as I'm broadcasting!
I've chosen some of my favourites, some lesser-known, for example the obscure and astonishing Sidewalk Doctor cut, hard to find and based on the Smokey Robinson tune Get Ready, originally by the Temptations.
