Holiday home and AirBnb owners in Christchurch say moves by the Council to regulate their sector are anti-tourism and unfair. Christchurch City Council is moving forward with plans requiring short-term rental accommodation providers to apply for a one-off consent at a cost of at least $1000. The proposed changes to the District Plan have come about after pressure from the motel and hotel sector, concerns over the impact of short-term rentals on the housing supply and the changes to neighborhoods from the turnover of temporary visitors. Kathryn speaks with Sue Harrison, director of Christchurch Holiday Homes who manages 50 homes in the city and Akaroa.
