Last week's floods have been a major blow to roads across the Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough regions, some of which were still recovering from the weather events in July 2021.
Wild weather had destroyed 460km of roads in Marlborough alone last year.
While repair works were originally due to be completed by 2023, that appears unlikely now as more damage was done by the recent flooding.
Waka Kotahi's system manager for the Top of the South Island Andrew James spoke to Susie Ferguson.
