The Hepatitis Foundation clocked up more than $128,000 dollars in travel expenses for its board chair in just over two years, was putting on "lavish'' dinners and racking up thousands of dollars on credit cards with no record of what the money was being spent on.
While an investigation by the Charities Services concluded excessive expenses and gross mismanagement may have occurred, the Foundation has told RNZ there is no evidence of any wrongdoing.
In the six years leading up to when the inquiry started in 2016, the Foundation received about $10 million from the government to help care for people with Hepatitis B or C.
RNZ political reporter Jo Moir has been looking into the details.
