Unemployment is at its highest rate in two years, while wage inflation is dropping.
ASB Senior Economist Mark Smith says the third quarter 3.9 percent increase in unemployment figures are to be expected after borders re-opened to migrant labour.
He says unemployment should peak at around 5 percent in the next twelve months.
Smith spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
