Auckland health authorities were given hundreds of thousands of dollars to fix the dental surgery wait list in 2020, but in 2022 nearly 2000 children are still waiting for the treatment.
The children, many of them in daily pain, need work done under general anaesthetic because it was either complex or because they would find it difficult to be awake for a dental procedure - particularly very young children.
The Dental Association says the service has done a good job trying to clear the wait list but it's been "chasing its tail."
It's spokesperson Katie Ayers spoke to Māni Dunlop.
