Te Whatu Ora Health NZ is asking hospitals to "actively tackle" long surgical wait lists, by ensuring 7500 people who'd been waiting for longer than a year can have their slot booked before August 31.
Many of those are orthopaedic patients, who've been living in pain as they wait for surgery.
Orthopaedic Association president John McKie spoke to Susie Ferguson.
