The head of the Insurance Council has described the surge in household insurance premiums as "unusual".
RNZ has revealed that household premiums have jumped by more than 30 percent in a year in some parts of New Zealand.
Some companies appear to have withdrawn online quotes for entire regions.
Insurance Council chief executive Tim Grafton spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
