Former defence Minister, Ron Mark, says the Government should be preparing to get diplomatic boots on the ground in Ukraine.
Mark is a former soldier who himself has spent time on the ground in the warzone.
He says many New Zealand soldiers are considering leaving the army in the wake of the death of corporal Dominic Abelen last month.
Because of that, he believes the Government should work to improve diplomatic support in the country.
He told our reporter, Charlotte Cook, Dominic Abelen's death has had a big impact on Defence Force personnel.
