A new report by Stats NZ and the Environment Ministry has laid out what New Zealand's future holds as a result of climate change.
New Zealand's third Atmosphere and Climate report predicts more extreme weather, pests and infectious diseases.
Dr Andrea Byrom, an independent environmental consultant, says the report can help set realistic emissions targets and plan managed retreat.
Byrom spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
