In Paris, 40,000 police and paramilitary officers have been mobilised in anticipation of more riots and protests.
It comes after 150 people were arrested on Wednesdsay, the second night of widespread protests over the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy at a traffic stop by a police officer.
The accused officer has been charged with voluntary homicide and placed in custody.
