A man who witnessed poor safety practices carried out by an inflatable slide company has welcomed the $350,000 fine handed down to the company but says it should have happened earlier.
Fun Solutions was fined hundreds of thousands of dollars in the Waihi District Court yesterday. It also has to pay almost $53,000 in damages.
WorkSafe, which brought the case, says JTK Trustee Limited - trading as 'Fun Solutions' - put people in "extreme danger" when their slide collapsed at the 2020 Whangamata Summer Festival.
It had allowed the slide to become overloaded. Malcolm Barr was at an event with his daughters in Hamilton Gardens in 2016 when the company's inflatable slide also collapsed and 10 children fell about 10 metres.
