All eight New Zealand universities have risen in one of the main league tables of international universities.
The University of Auckland was the top placed New Zealand institution, climbing from 87th to 68th place in the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings.
The league table published this morning comes just as universities have been pleading poor and persuaded the government to boost their funding.
Education correspondent John Gerritsen spoke to Corin Dann.
