Researchers say the ripple effects of providing healthy meals in schools extend wider than a free lunch. The $260 million Healthy School Lunch Programme, Ka Ora, Ka Ako, provides free meals to schools in need across Aotearoa. But supporters say the programme can also improve children's mental health, enrich learning and boost local economies. Pippa McKelvie-Sebileau is a research fellow with the University of Auckland.
