The small Pacific nation of Nauru has severed diplomatic ties with Taiwan following its recent presidential elections.
The Nauru government will seek resumption of diplomatic relations with China, stating it was in the country's 'best interest' to do so.
It leaves Taiwan with only twelve diplomatic allies, including Palau, Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands in the Pacific.
