Some Marlborough residents remain almost completely isolated a week after the region declared a state of emergency.
Many properties in the Sounds can only be accessed by helicopter or boat while scores of road crews try to clear mud, trees and rockfall from state highways and local roads.
It will likely be days or weeks before some can be fully re-opened.
Niva Chittock has this report from Blenheim.
