The government has instructed Kāinga Ora to kill one of the National Party's own policies from 2017 and be harder on misbehaving renters by putting an end to its 'sustaining tenancies' policy.
This comes after multiple incidents of threatening or violent behaviour towards neighbours.
But like any landlord, Kāinga Ora is bound by the Residential Tenancies Act, and evictions aren't easy to do.
Housing Minister Chris Bishop spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
